Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan’s Public School, Jubilee Hills, Hyderabad

Sri Sankana Vidyashramam Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Thiruvanmiyur, Chennai, Govt. Higher Secondary School, Peruvallur, Malapuram, Kerala and Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan’s Public School, Jubilee Hills, Hyderabad were awarded the Best Heritage Club 2013 award.

Activities included UN day celebration, celebration of Telugu week, heritage week, Hindi week, Nutrition Week, Food week, pottery painting competition, Heritage Quiz, puppet show, growing plants creatively, making of Eco- friendly Ganesha, Me and Dad, Fire Drill, Joy of giving week etc, Visit to Bapu Ghat , Belum Caves, Mahanadi, Rollapadu Wildlife Sanctuary, Educational trip to Bangalore, Mysore and Ooty etc.

Best Heritage Clubs

Govt. Higher Secondary School, Peruvallur, Malapuram

Various club activities included exhibition on authentic artifacts from various periods and smallest Quran and the lithograph from Germany, visit to Illathumadu Illam a traditional home, Heritage Quiz competition, World Youth Day, Kerala ‘Piravi’ Celebration, study on Temples and Mosques, AIDS awareness programme, folk song camp, seminar on Indian Heritage and the languge ‘Mygurudu’, Onam and New Year celebration with Seshi: Differently Abled children, walks to Kuruva Island, Wayanad and Banasura Sagar dam which is made up of mud, making of documentaries etc. in the study of temples and mosques, students studied and collected documents about its myth and legends, history, its construction, architecture and its influence on society. They edited one book title: the history of religious places of Peruvallur. The club made one short film’ Follow Me’, with a message to give to all students the importance of food education and kindness. The direction, cinematography and editing was done by club members.

Delhi Public School, Sector-45, Gurgaon

Delhi Public School, Sector-45, Gurgaon , G.K.D Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Coimbatore, Maharaja Sawai Bhawani Singh School, Jaipur and Delhi School of Excellence, Hyderabad won the First Runner up award.

Various activities of the Heritage club included celebration of Earth Day, Vanmahostav, Independence Day, Hindi Diwas, Gandhi Jayanti, Children’s Day, Christmas, heritage week etc, heritage walk to Humayun’s Tomb, discussion on important festivals celebrated in the 4 metros, caring for our works of art, medical plants, etc. During the heritage week celebrations, the students participated in a collage making activity on the topic, ‘Rural Craft gets a Modern Twist’. During the World wildlife week celebration, the students designed colorful travel brochures attracting tourists to visit wildlife sanctuaries in India. During the Republic day celebrations, Children enjoyed singing Vande Mataram and went home proud and happy Indians.

The club organized activities under natural heritage including my Fascinating tree, Leaf art, Art of bark pressing, My Garden, Herbal boon, Painting with natural cues, Pongal, Rangili, Science exhibition etc, activities under living heritage included Pencil drawing, Vegetable painting, Fabric painting, collage work, Thread painting, wealth out of waste, Mask making, Scientific tools from waste, Storytelling etc and under heritage activities include My City Kovai, Temples in My city, structure of temples, temple cleaning etc

Formal inauguration of Heritage Club on the 18th of April 2013 on the occasion of World Heritage Day followed by activities such as celebration of World Earth Day, walk to see the Industrial Heritage of Hyderabad to Moti Market Kacheguda, visit to Pochampally a weaving village, created a soft board displaying the various headgears, the Heritage Board on the topic ‘Trees’ etc

The Heritage club organized activities such as visit to Handmade paper and Block printing factory visit, heritage wal to Maniharon ka Rasta, Sarga Suli bird watching at Maansagar, Raanthambor visit, Harshit Mata temple visit, etc, Tie and Dye Handkerchief making, Puppet making, story telling competition, lassi making, dia making, mask making, mandana making, water harvesting exhibition, exhibition on Jaipur then and now, water conservation enactment etc

Seven schools such as Sardar Patel Vidyalaya, Delhi , Sri Sankara Senior Secondary School, Chennai, Hansraj Model School, Punjabi Bagh, Delhi , Akshara School, Kakinada, Sri Prakash Vidyaniketan, Pendurti, Visakhapatnam , D.A.V Public School, Unit VIII, Bhubaneswar, Modern High School for Girls, Kolkata were awarded the Second Runner up award.

In the year 2013-14, in the school level, the club organized competition of Christmas tree making, celebrated Christmas, Sankranti and Vanamahostav, a nature walk around the school and Heritage Display Board. In the community level, events such as Visit to Archaeological Museum, Aaduru Village, Mangroves and Blind school was organized. As a part of neighbourhood activities, the school cleaned the Archaeological museum, its artifacts and statues.

Sri Sankara Senior Secondary School, Adyar, Chennai

Sanskrithi, the Heritage Club organized activities such as celebration of Pongal, Republic Day, World Heritage Day, World Environment day, Vanamahostav, Independence Day, Navarathri, Vijayadashami, Diwali, ThyagarajaAradhana, World Music Day, Christmas etc and a walk to the Theosophical society, Adyar, students collected food grains and old clothes for Blue Cross, Initiated a herbal garden in school etc.

The Club Activities Included celebration of Mrudh Vinayakam or Ganesh Chaturdhi, Hindi Diwas , Christmas, Pongal etc, a session of storytelling by Mrs. Geeta Ramanujam, Executive Director, Academy of Storytelling, Kathalaya Trust, Benguluru , Interaction with Guinness Book Record Holder Mr.Ram Singh Chauhan, the proud possessor of an 18 feet long moustache, Matru Bhasha Dinotsavam symbolizing the importance of mother tongue , Training the students in warli art, Bulletin Board competitions conducted every month among the four houses Chola, Kakatiya, Maratha, Mourya etc

D.A.V Public School, Unit VIII, Bhubaneswar

The club activities included poster making competition on Quit Indian Movement, poetry composition and recitation on Mahatma Gandhi, plantation on the eve of Van Mahostav, Quit Indian Day observation, quiz competition on UNO. Training on disaster management, slogan writing on “To save or monument”, TRIP TO Shanti Stupa Dhauli, collection of information on ‘Indian Cakes’ and also on Temples and Cultures of Odisha etc.

Club celebrated World Heritage Day, organised Food festival and a mango festival ‘Amrostav’, visit to sunder nursery, Walk with me focusing on the landscape and history of the Lodi Estate, workshop on of ‘jaali’ on paper, painted a Heritage wall , working on abook of folktales and narratives etc.

Intach Activities for the Month of April
Junior Wing

"What a country chooses to save is what a country chooses to say about itself".
With the quoted belief, the Junior School INTACH Club introduced the students to the aim and purpose of having the INTACH club in our school, they were made familiar with the enriching and fun filled activities planned for this month. Children of class III, IV and V were introduced to INTACH, its mission and prominent work done by the organization.

The Junior Wing conducted activities on the theme World Health Day, Earth Day and World Heritage Day. The theme of World Health Day “Universal Health Coverage” and the slogan “Health for All” were explained to the class. Students were made aware about the role of nutritious food in their growth and development. A brief introduction to the importance of celebrating Earth Day was given to the students by informative videos as well as discussion in the class. They designed badges on the theme ‘save mother earth’. Students also took active part in sharing their ideas for a clean and green Earth as well as saving and preserving the heritage and drew attractive illustrations in their activity notebooks. A video clip of the world heritage sites in India was shown to increase their awareness about the Heritage monuments and sites in our country. Quiz on Heritage sites of India saw enthusiastic participation of the students wherein they learnt about the need of preserving heritage sites and were made aware of new facts about the heritage sites in India. ANAGRAM solving activity helped children learn new words related to environmental issues. Students of Junior school participated in World Heritage Day organised by ITIHAAS, a competition on 3D exhibits from waste material on the theme UNESCO World Heritage sites in India,at Purana Qila,New Delhi. They presented their model on Darjeeling Himalayan Railways and made the school proud by securing the second position in Junior School Category.

Middle Wing

The middle wing students VII wrote interesting and unknown facts about monuments of India on the occasion of World Heritage Day on 5th April. The students participated enthusiastically and highlighted the measures to preserve the monuments and keep them alive for upcoming generations. Students of class VIII prepared an itinerary of Gurgaon titled- ‘Gurgaon City Tour.’ These activities helped students gain an insight into the rich cultural heritage of India. To promote cultural awareness among students, Delhi Public School Gurgaon, under the aegis of SPICMACAY, organized a lecture-cum-demonstration on Thursday, 11th April, 2019 in the school auditorium. The renowned Manipuri dancers, Padma Shri, Raj Kumar Singhajit Singh and Ms. Charu Sija Mathur performed for the students of classes VI-IX. Students from various other schools of Gurgaon were invited for the same. Ms. Archana Prasad, Head of Spic Macay Gurgaon Chapter, also attended the programme. The show commenced with the traditional lighting of the lamp by the eminent artists and the Director Principal, Ms. Aditi Misra. The distinguished guest artists were then felicitated with tokens of appreciation. Shri Raj Kumar Singhajit Singh and Ms. Charu Sija Mathur, took the students through the journey of understanding the nuances of the Manipuri dance form by giving valuable insights. They spoke about how the language of dance transcends all boundaries. Their performance along with their team of musicians and accompanists comprising of Mr. Jagannath Ghoshal, Mr. Pradeep Singh, Mr. Sarat Singh and Ms. Laxmi Devi left the audience spellbound. The interactive lecture-cum-demonstration with the students made the session not only enjoyable but also informative. It was an unforgettable life experience for the students as they were exposed to the rich cultural heritage of India.

Various activities were organized such as trip to Malda, Gour and Pandua, Puri and Konark, , International Sand art show at Puri , Raghurajpuretc Victoria Memorial Seminar on the topic Heritage of Education, Victoria Memorial Activity club essay competition on the cultural Heritage of Bengal, Workshop on Odisha Pattachitra workshop at Artisana, Candle making workshop at Victoria Memorial, Shola workshop at Victoria Memorial, Art mela, celebration of Children’s Day etc.

Oxford Grammar School, Hyderabad

Club organized activities such as adoption of trees, Paper bag making activity, celebration of Van Mahostav, Earth Day, Independence day, water conservation day, Brochure making on Exploring India, Prayaas- a civic awareness drive, collage making on Rajasthan, heritage walk at the Golden Temple, Parliament House and Museum, Rajpath, trip to Shimla etc

Public School, Vikaspuri, Delhi won in the category of Special Mention. Here are few schools and their few interesting activities

The Times of India has organized this event where in our students from grade 3 to 6 went to Humayun’s Tomb for Heritage walk. Grade 4 students were taught how Bandhani the tye-dye is done in Rajasthan State of India. Children also drew the patterns of Warli art and Madhubani painting on borders cut from coloured charts. There was a walk organized to Old Fort and students were briefed about the history of the fort through a small orientation programme which included description about the fort, storytelling session, picture gallery and a pre-questionnaire. The school organized an educational excursion to Bhopal – The city of Lakes for three days and Students visited two lakes, Bhimbetka caves, Sanchi Stupa and National Museum.

On May 7 2013, an Inter school competition was organized by heritage Club to celebrate World Heritage Day and Dance competition and representing an Indian State ( its culture and heritage). Club also orgainised a Value Education exhibition- Indian heritage in august- and In October- Save a heritage tree In which Children from Class 7 participated focusing on Trees like Neem, Arjuna and triveni. In November-, a programme on promoting Eco Friendly diwali ( without crackers, by lighting Earthen lamps and also promoting Cottage industry) was held.

The school set up its INTACH club in the First academic year 2013-14. All teachers and students unanimously decided the name for the club to be “Kadamba”, a Sanskrit word meaning dove. The club activities ranged from Celebration of World Environment Day, Independence Day, Janmashtrami, Teachers’ Day, Grandparents day, Gandhi Jayanti, Dussehra, Children’s day, Kannada Rajyothsava, Lohri Students of Class 4 presented their assembly on the value ‘Respect for Everyone’ and another one with the topic” Indian Armed Forces and Courage” and Students of Class 3 presented a special assembly with 'Kindness'
