INTACH Activities for the Month of December
Armed Forces Flag Day

The Armed Forces Flag Day is a day dedicated to honour the soldiers and veterans of India's Armed forces. It is observed annually in India on December 7. Students of classes III, IV and V were made aware of the contributions of the Indian Armed forces in our country’s safety. Students of class III made beautiful gratitude trees in their notebooks to show gratitude towards the soldiers. The students of classes IV and V expressed their gratitude towards our soldiers by making gratitude cards wherein they wrote heart-warming messages for the brave hearts.

Energy Conservation Week

The National Energy Conservation Day is celebrated every year on December 14 since 1991. The students of classes IV and V were acquainted about the different sources of Renewable energy and were sensitized towards the need of ‘Save Energy’. They were shown a video showing the importance of renewable sources in our life. Students of Class IV made badges for promoting energy conservation and sustainable energy consumption whereas the students of class V made comic strips about renewable energy sources.

MIDDLE SCHOOL

Heritage Walk – Red Fort

An educational trip to Red Fort was organised by ITIHAAS (Indian Traditions and Heritage Society) for students of class VII on 9th December 2023. Guided by the knowledgeable team of Ms. Smita Vats, Ms. Shivani and Ms. Indira Ganesh the students were taken on an enriching tour of ITIHAAS, along with their team. They explained the historical and architectural significance of the fort. The children explored key landmarks such as Diwan-e-Aam, Diwan-e-Khas, Naubatkhana within the fort. The students enjoyed the stories associated with the various monuments and asked a number of questions that reflected their keen interest. The children learnt about the rich heritage of the country and developed a sense of pride and appreciation for India’s cultural legacy.

Mesmerising Monuments

INTACH school group organized an activity for the students of the Middle School, on the topic – ‘Mesmerising monuments’. Children made beautiful pencil sketches and paintings of various monuments of India. They also wrote self-composed poems and write-ups highlighting the facts, myths and architectural features of the monuments chosen. The activity allowed the students to showcase their creativity. Students learnt a lot about monuments of India, which are a testimonial to our rich and varied heritage.

SENIOR SCHOOL

Jaipur History Festival 2023

The Jaipur History Festival 2023, held at City Palace, Jaipur from 5th to 8th December 2023, brought together over 100 schools nationwide under the theme ‘Education through Monuments’. The festival aimed to promote experiential learning and collaboration among schools, offering children a dynamic exploration of our country's culture and history through fascinating stories of monuments. Guided by Mr. Sandeep Sethi, Director – Education, Maharaja Sawai Man Singh II Trust, City Palace, Jaipur, and our Director Principal, Ms. Aditi Misra, the students of DPS Sector 45, Gurgaon completed the project successfully. Actively participating in this insightful journey, they gained a deeper understanding of human experiences transcending time and culture.

DPS Gurgaon students brought history to life at the Jaipur History Festival, captivating audiences with an enthralling showcase of cultural performances and informative presentations. The event commenced with a vibrant fusion dance performance that eloquently depicted the Mughal era. Dancers, adorned as warriors, exuded the essence of the Mughal army, immersing the audience in the historical grandeur and cultural richness of that period; live street play, or Nukkad Natak, musical dimension adding to the historical narrative through a choir presentation in multiple languages – English, Hindi, and French, an art exhibition, innovative table presentations like the flip book, documentary and intriguing science and mathematics display models were exquisitely presented. These added visual and intellectual depth to the event, showcasing the students' diverse talents.

INTACH Activities for the Month of December

HERITAGE WALK FOR INFINITY SCHOOL, NOIDA

19th-20th December 2023

A group of 114 students and 8 teachers from Infinity School, Noida were taken on a Heritage Walk to Humayun’s Tomb complex by Ms. Vaishnavi, Ms. Nanki Kaur and Ms. Andrea Mathews from HECS and Ms. Deepanshi Tandon from Delhi Chapter. The walk started with an introduction to the city of Delhi and a general introduction to the Mughal Dynasty. The students were shown and explained Isa Khan’s Tomb, Bu Halima’s Tomb, Arab Serai Gateway, and Humayun’s Tomb. The heritage walk ended with a group photograph.

On the second day, 75 students and 6 teachers were taken on a Heritage Walk to Purana Qila by Mr. Abhishek Das, Ms. Vaishnavi and Ms. Nanki Kaur from HECS. After being divided into groups, the students were first given a general introduction to the old capital city of Dinpanah. They were taken to see the Sher Mandal, the Qila-e Kunha, which is the main masjid located within the Old Fort, as well as the Hammam and Baoli and the 3 gates of the fort. The walk ended with a visit to the museums of Purana Qila.

World Heritage Week Celebration, November 2023

INTACH Heritage Club of MMPS celebrated World Heritage Week from November 20-24, 2023 under which the following activities were observed-
Nature's Walk to a Heritage Site- "Karni Mata Temple"- Also known as Shri Manshapurna Karni Mata Temple, is a Hindu temple in Udaipur, Rajasthan, atop of Doodh Talai Lake which offers breathtaking views of the city. It is located on the Machla Magra Hills near the Din Dayal Upadhyaya Park, which is at a perfect height of 150 meters and may be reached via 1050 stairs from Maniklal Verma Park leading straight up to the temple or a four-minute ropeway ride. Surprisingly, the temple has a huge, well-kept area that encompasses the majority of the hillock.

Expert's Talk
Talk by Mr Vilas Janve on November 22,2023
Mr Vilas Janve, senior theatre artist & mime expert was invited for the talk. He highlighted the importance of Living heritage, the importance of folk songs, folklore, and folk literature in our lives. The event was marked by the presence of Prof. Lalit Pandey, Convenor, INTACH, Udaipur chapter, Mr. Gaurav Singhvi, Co-convenor, INTACH Udaipur chapter, Dr Maheep Bhatnagar, Mr Rajeev Bhardawaj & Mr Satish Shrimali ( life members, INTACH) & Mr Mayank Trivedi, Principal, MMPS. The program was conducted by Mariya Hussain (member of INTACH Heritage Club-MMPS) & Vote of Thanks was given by Ishaan Bhatnagar (Club President-MMPS).

Inter-House Heritage Wall Decoration Competition:
A day to recognize and appreciate the monuments and ancient possessions that make up the heritage of one’s nation- World Heritage Day is a collective effort to maintain the legacy given to us by our ancestors. The value of our ancestral traditions and sculptures that were made thousands of years ago, is globally celebrated today.

Inter-House Mandana Making Competition:
Mandana paintings are wall and floor paintings of Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh, India. Mandana are drawn to protect home and hearth, welcome gods into the house, and as a mark of celebrations on festive occasions. Meena women in the Hadoti area of Rajasthan possess skills for developing designs of perfect symmetry and accuracy. The art is practiced on floors and walls, and the practice is often passed from mother to daughter. The art is much more pronounced and attached to the Meena community of the Hadoti area. The ground is prepared with cow dung mixed with rati, a local clay, and red ochre. Lime or chalk powder is used for making the motif. Tools employed are a piece of cotton, a tuft of hair, or a rudimentary brush made out of a date stick. The design may show Ganesha, peacocks, women at work, tigers, floral motifs, etc. Such paintings are also called mandalas in most of the parts of Nepal.

JUNIOR WING

Haryana Day

Haryana Day is celebrated all over the state on 1st November every year to commemorate the day when it was separated from East Punjab in 1966. The students of class 3 made symbols of Haryana for eg.- animal, bird , flower and tree and the students of Class 5 made the poster on Haryana day with a slogan.

Chandigarh and Chhatbir Zoo Trip –

The school organized two days excursion to Chandigarh and Chhatbir Zoo on 3rd and 4th November 2023. A group of 87 students of classes IV and V along with the teachers visited there. The students visited the Rock Garden and the Sukhna Lake. It was an exhilarating experience. The second day was full of adventure as students went for a lion safari and spotted many animals in Chhatbir Zoo.

States Day

Class III celebrated its cultural bonanza, ‘My Colourful India’ amid great zest, vibrancy and elation on 6th November, 2023. The spectacular performance by the students made everyone look through a colourful kaleidoscope at the culture of various states of India. The rich cultural legacy of the various states of India was beautifully depicted through a dance performance which left everyone spell-bound. The States Day celebration was a resounding success, appreciated by all for its lively presentations.

Diwali Celebration

To celebrate this auspicious day, various activities were organized for the Junior Wing beginning with an inter-house rangoli competition on 6th November 2023. The vibrant wall hangings were created with lots of interest and creative ideas. The rangoli activity was followed by a special online assembly on 8th November 2023. The celebration culminated with a vibrant cooking without fire activity. Students thoroughly enjoyed making choco rolls and garnishing it with fruits, biscuits and toppings.

Diwali Assembly

A Special Assembly on Diwali Was conducted on 3rd November, 2023 for classes VI, VII and VIII. The Assembly commenced with a prayer followed by thought of the day and news to keep the children updated. The students were then made aware about the history and significance of the festival, emphasising the victory of good over evil. The students also gave tips on how to celebrate an eco-friendly Diwali. They spoke about the joy of giving.

Confluence: Bharat Ki Saundhi Kushboo

Delhi Public School, Gurgaon organised ‘Confluence: Bharat Ki Saundhi Khushboo’, for the students of class VII. The event celebrated the vibrant cultural tapestry of India through mesmerising blend of dance performances and a fashion show. A commendable effort by the students and their mentors showcased the varied traditions, intricate handicrafts and exquisite weaves from various enchanting states across India. This was in tandem with Ek Bharat Shreshth Bharat activities. The initiative aims to ensure that the children learn to appreciate the rich heritage and culture of our country.

Art on My Plate- Wall Décor with Paper Plates

On the 16th November 2023, the INTACH club at Delhi Public School Gurgaon organised an engaging and educational activity centered around the theme ‘Art on My Plate’. The theme of ‘Art on My Plate’ revolves around exploring Indian folk art and its profound cultural significance. Students were encouraged to choose from various traditional themes such as Phad painting, Aipan art, or Bhil painting to adorn their class boards. Engaging in this activity fosters an understanding and appreciation of the diverse Indian folkart forms and provides a platform for students to express themselves artistically while learning about cultural narratives.

Visit to Taj Mahal and Agra Fort

Delhi Public School, Gurgaon had organised an educational trip to Agra, for the students of Grade VII. Children were excited to view one of the Seven Wonders of the World, ‘Taj Mahal’ which stands at the banks of river Yamuna. One of the finest examples of Mughal architecture, which combines Indian, Persian and Islamic styles, is no doubt a mesmerising experience to visit. The guide enlightened the group with the history of Shah Jahan’s tribute to his beloved Mumtaz. This was followed by a visit to Agra Fort. It was an informative and fun- filled trip which opened the young minds to new ideas and learning.

Rangoli Making Competition

Keeping up with the festive spirit, Delhi Public School, Gurgaon organised an Inter-House Rangoli Making Competition for classes IX-XI. Participants from all the houses participated with vigour and enthusiasm. They made beautiful and colourful rangolis. The competition aimed at honing aesthetic skills, creativity, and innovation of the young students. Teachers of the Art Department of the school adjudged the event.

Educational Excursion under ‘Education through Monuments' Project

A group of 15 teachers and 28 students from classes IX and XI embarked on an educational visit to three historical monuments (Farrukh Nagar Sheesh Mahal, Ghaus Ali Shah's Baoli, Mohyal Colony Tomb) taken up under the project ‘Education Through Monuments’ in Gurgaon. This initiative is in line with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and aims to provide students with an engaging and research- based experience in exploring and learning about India's historical heritage. The primary objective of this educational visit was to offer students a hands-on experience and encourage them to observe and document intricate details related to the dimensions, architectural elements, historical significance, and cultural context of the selected monuments. During the exploration of these historical sites, both students and teachers actively participated in conversations, sharing their observations, raising questions, and expressing their curiosity. These discussions played a crucial role in the visit, as they prompted students to view these monuments from various subject-specific angles. This approach fostered a sense of inquisitiveness, critical thinking, and active learning among the students.

INTACH Activities for the Month of September
JUNIOR SCHOOL

The month of September was an eventful month for Junior School with a host of activities that kindled the sense of creativity and express love and respect for their teachers.

TEACHER’S DAY

The students of classes 3, 4 and 5 expressed their love and gratitude to teachers by making beautiful cards with a special message and pretty flowers using origami paper. The bright and colourful cards and flowers were not only a visual treat but also expressed the deepest sentiments for their mentors.

HINDI DIWAS

Taking pride in our Hindi language and to spread its message, Hindi Diwas was celebrated with great zeal and enthusiasm in the school. The celebrations were spread over a week with an array of activities like Board decoration, Hindi Sulekh and other activities. The children added colourful ambience to their classrooms by making beautiful display boards with information about a famous Hindi writer or a poet. A special assembly on Hindi Diwas was also conducted on this day to bring the students close to the language.

WORLD RIVERS DAY

The students of class 4 made beautiful illustration on the importance of river, aquatic life and exhibited happiness they feel sitting by a river. The purpose of the activity promoted awareness about how our water resources need to be nurtured.

INTERNATIONAL DAY OF PEACE

On the occasion of International Day of Peace students of class 3 created lovely posters in their notebooks to commemorate this significant day and spread the beautiful message of the value of peace.

WORLD TOURISM DAY

The INTACH Group observed the day by hosting a number of events to introduce the kids to different tourist spots and assist them in promoting the culture and legacy of our nation.The activity related to promotion of campaigning for the states brought them closer to their heritage.

JANAMASHTAMI ASSEMBLY

On 4th September 2023, the students of Jhelum House presented the Janmashtami assembly with great fervour, to understand the importance of Lord Krishna's teachings in contemporary times, celebrate togetherness and encourage goodwill. The students shared an inspiring thought to spread the message of kindness. This was followed by a thought provoking skit performance, highlighting the universal theme of friendship, and the importance of working for the welfare of the world selflessly. Dressed in colourful traditional costumes, the students performed their roles with confidence and great enthusiasm. All the participants came together on the stage for the finale, with a soulful rendition of the melodious song ‘Shri Krishna Govind Hare Murari’, along with a synchronized, graceful and captivating dance performance, which was enjoyed by all. The assembly concluded with the Headmistress (Junior wing), Ms. Laveena Hemrajani, highlighting the importance of Janmashtami.

INCREDIBLE INDIA

NATIONAL FOREST MARTYRS DAY

On 20th September 2023, the INTACH club at DPS Gurgaon organised a vibrant and educational activity to commemorate National Forest Martyrs Day. The overarching theme of the event was 'The Passionate Nature Lover in Me,' which aimed to ignite a deep appreciation for nature and environmental conservation among the students. The students displayed remarkable enthusiasm throughout the event, engaging in the activities designed to instill a sense of responsibility and love for our natural world. They delved into the annals of India's powerful environmental movements, showcasing their commitment to understanding and addressing critical environmental issues. Students enthusiastically undertook the task of redesigning posters featuring their favourite animal themed movies. This activity not only honed their artistic skills, but also allowed them to express their admiration for the animal kingdom in an imaginative way.

SOCIAL SCIENCE FEST

The Social Science fest of class VIII was a unique opportunity for the young learners to enhance their creativity and enable them to understand the culture, heritage and environment of Indian society through hands on activities. The students researched and made presentations on the topics related to their curriculum such as UNESCO world heritage sites in India, Revolt of 1857, Tribes of India etc. They presented their themes through street play, role plays and prepared ppt and models to make their presentations more interesting.

Fhuli Celebration

The endangered festival of FHULI (Intangible Heritage of Mewar) is celebrated one week before Rakshabandhan. Sisters ties a thread around their wrist for the well being of their brothers. On the day of fhuli, they are invited at their brothers house for feast followed by pooja. Saptarishis are worshipped on this day. Because of busy schedule & fast lifestyle, this intangible heritage is getting endangered. The heritage club celebrated this festival as part of their heritage club activities.

Magnifique Création' 23 – an Exhibition of projects in Science, Geography Social Science and several other subjects

Jodhamal Public School organized Magnifique Création ’23 – an Exhibition of projects in Science, Geography Social Science and several other subjects at OAT. The Exhibition was inaugurated by the Chief Guest. Mr S. M. Sahni, Convener, INTACH, Jammu Chapter, and the Guest of Honour, Mr Zaffar Ullah Khan, State Coordinator, National Children Science Congress.

The main motive of Magnifique Création ’23 was to encourage the creativity of the students and motivate them to create some models, prototype that may be socially useful. More than 300 projects, prepared by the Students from Classes VII to XII, were displayed and demonstrated under the guidance of teachers. The Working-Models put up in the Exhibition piqued everybody’s curiosity and were the most-visited and admired segments of the Exhibition. Some of these models included : a working human heart, wireless charging, Newton’s Three Laws of Motion, water purification, steam engine, DC Generator, AC generator, alternate sources of energy showing hydro, windmill, electrolysis of water and solar energy, depicting Hydrogen to Helium, Model of a plant cell, working Volcanoes, Aeroplane, Generation of Electricity using lemons, Seismographs, Smart City Projects, Drip Irrigation Systems, High Voltage Plasma Lavitation, Tesla Coil, Salt Water Electricity, Thomson’s Experiment etc. The teacher-mentors who guided and supported students were: Ms Aashima, Ms Emon, Ms Rimjhim and other members of the Science Department, Social Science Department and Art and Craft Department. The Exhibition remained open for two more days and was appreciated by all who visited.

INTACH Activities for the Month of July
Junior Wing

The month of July set a platform where a plethora of activities were held for our Junior School students that helped the students to inbuilt the sense of dependency and importance on forests in our ecosystem. Young minds were able to inhibit the essentiality and value of flora and fauna in their lives.

Van Mahotsav / World Population Day

The main idea behind the celebration of Van Mahotsav was to inculcate social accountability in students of class III, IV, V and to protect the forests and practice eco-friendly ways to conserve the environment. The students of class 3 designed beautiful bookmarks on “Save Trees”. The students of class 4 made colourful posters related to the topic “Save Our Forests” and class 5 were given write-ups on importance of forests.

On the occasion of World Population the students of classes 3, 4 and 5 expressed their thoughts by writing the slogan and making Mandala and Madhubani Art. The beautiful and colourful paintings and thoughtful slogans showed how population is bursting as it seams and is posing a threat to ecology and green cover of planet Earth.

Middle School

The INTACH club of DPS Gurgaon organised an activity, ‘Filmotsava –The Art of Movie Making and Designing’. Students created movies using different applications on the given theme. Thereafter, they participated in the poster making activity wherein they designed a poster for the movie created by them. The activity also motivated students to use their creative skills and inspired them to come up with different ideas. It helped them in fostering a better understanding of the rich flora and fauna of our country.

Senior School

Assembly- Sustainable Population Growth

A class assembly on sustainable population growth was conducted by senior school students. The assembly began with a serene morning prayer, setting a harmonious tone for the discussion. The students explained the impact and therefore the reasons to promote sustainable population as an individual. Through thought-provoking quotes and messages, the need to take up this global issue was pointed out and its impact on our lives was appraised. The students highlighted the role played by sustaining population growth on the well-being of everyone. The students concluded the assembly by taking a heartfelt pledge to contribute to a more viable future by making conscious choices and advocating for change. “Cultivating a mindset of sustainable population growth is an investment in our shared future. Let us choose to balance our needs with the capacity of our planet, ensuring prosperity for generations to come.

Middle Wing

Inter House Music& Dance Fest
The Inter House Music and Dance Fest at Delhi Public School, Gurgaon was celebrated by the students of Classes VII and VIII with zeal and enthusiasm. The theme of the fest was 'The Freedom Fighters of India' for the dance performances and 'Folk Music of the Northern States of India' for the musical performances. The extravaganza rooted in the rich history and culture of India was well researched and brilliantly executed. Ms. Shalini Arora, Headmistress, Middle School shared her valuable inputs and encouraged the students to learn various art forms as they open new avenues to explore their potential.

Senior School
Gurgaon Heritage Walk

A Heritage Walk in old Gurgaon was organised by INTACH, Gurgaon chapter to showcase the history of the place dotted with old edifices tucked between the traffic laden bustling roads and busy neighbourhoods. 29 students of class XI of Delhi Public School, Sector 45 Gurgaon, enthusiastically participated in the Heritage Walk to explore the fascinating old charm of the city. The walk commenced with Aliwardi Masjid near Civil Lines, followed by visiting the recently restored Church of Epiphany. The walk culminated at the Tomb of Major Jean Etienne near Mohyal colony. With Mr. Jeswin Joseph as the walk leader; and Ms. Anjali Saran, Ms.Tulika Rana, both INTACH members, it was an enriching experience for the students to discover the nuances of these places and understand their history and heritage.

Heritage Walk: National Museum
The school organised a day educational trip to the National Museum in New Delhi for students of grade XII on 1 June 2023. The group explained the children in great detail the ins and outs of Early Indian History. This was accompanied with meticulous artefacts and descriptions of the Harappan civilisation, Mauryan art, Gupta dynasty and the spread of Buddhism. The sights of the historical paintings, coins and statues were intriguing and majestic. The trip served as a medium for students to learn and enjoy the history of India beyond the textbooks, and appreciate their own culture and heritage.

Junior Wing

Family Day
The students of class III enthusiastically expressed the love for their family by making a family tree to show all its members. This activity also augmented their knowledge about their ancestors and their precious inheritances from the past.

Students of class IV and V made a bookmark with a message for their favourite family member. They also made beautiful and colourful posters on ‘My Family’ using Worli art. This activity inculcated the spirit of love and dedication for their family.

International Museum Day:

To raise awareness about how important museums are in the development of society, a video on important museums was shown to children of classes 3, 4 and 5. Children showcased their creative talents by making beautiful cards and illustrating the things that they want to see in a museum such as tools, housewares, vehicles, old photographs, paintings, sculpture, and the decorative arts.

Cultural Diversity Day:

Students of Junior school expressed the joy that the festivities bring along by making beautiful illustrations and writing few lines on their favourite festival. They displayed immense enthusiasm and had a lot of fun doing this activity. Children learnt the importance of each and every festival celebrated in our country.

Ek Bharat Shrestha Bharat- Kerala

Students gained lot of information about God’s own country. They also learnt about the state festival of Kerala and snake boat race which is mainly conducted during the season of the harvest festival. Various enriching activities were conducted in different subjects across classes III, IV and V to enhance children’s learning. On the day of culmination, children got the state food and a fun quiz was conducted to make the whole experience interesting.

Museum Day
On 8th May, 2023, the INTACH club of DPS, Gurgaon, organised an activity, 'Illuminating Museums' to celebrate the upcoming World Museum Day. Students enjoyed watching a video on the best museums of India. Thereafter they participated in various activities wherein they designed an entry ticket for the National Museum, Delhi and Shankar's International Doll Museum Delhi. They composed poems and wrote about their experience of visiting a museum. Students of class VIII were given a virtual tour of the National Museum, Delhi. Students had an enriching experience moving through the different galleries of the art museum in virtual reality.

Mini Theatre with Puppets

The students of middle school seized the opportunity by indulging in theatre through puppetry. Across various disciplines, the use of puppets fostered the students’ creativity and imagination. The modus operandi instilled in students the right amalgam of knowledge and learning. From making finger puppets, writing dialogues and performing puppet shows to knowing the history of puppets the activity was a massive success.

International Dance Day

DPS Sector 45 Gurgaon celebrated World Dance Day with a special assembly on Monday 1st May 2023. The assembly witnessed a dance recital by students from the junior, middle, and senior wings of the school, showcasing three different dance forms - Western, Bharatnatyam, and Kathak. The theme of the performances was centred around protecting the planet and promoting sustainability. The Director Principal Ms Aditi Misra delivered an address, highlighting that dance is not just about its physical advantages, but it also reaches the soul.

Assembly- Taking Care Of Our Heritage

The students of Class IX presented an assembly on the topic ‘Taking care of our heritage’. The assembly commenced with a prayer followed by the thought of the day, an intriguing poem on significance of heritage. The assembly concluded with the motivating words of the respective class teachers who further encouraged the students to protect and preserve our heritage.

Music Fest

The Inter House Music Fest was celebrated by the students of the six houses with great fervour on 3rd May 2023. The theme of the fest was- "Festivals of India''. Each house was assigned an Indian festival which they were expected to showcase through song and music.

INTACH –Book Reading Session

A book reading session with a renowned historian and author, Dr Swapna Liddle was organized by INTACH – Gurgaon Chapter on 20th May 2023. The session took place in Heritage City Community Centre, Gurgaon. Dr Liddle spoke about her connection with history, in particular the nineteenth century. Her book speaks about the gradual decline of the Mughal Empire and the rise of the East India Company in Delhi. History students of class XI got a wonderful opportunity to be in the presence of such a scholarly personality imparting knowledge about the theme. Major Atul Dev was the moderator of the session and he was the bridge that connected students with Dr Liddle. An experience like this is a rare gem in hiding. It was an enriching and insightful event.

International Day of Biological Diversity

The INTACH school group of Delhi Public School, Sector 45, Gurgaon celebrated the International Day of Biological Diversity by organizing a class board-making activity for students of class IX which focused on medicinal plants. Students also visited the school herb garden to learn about various herbs, their uses, and cultivation methods, fostering hands-on learning and environmental appreciation.

INTACH Activities for the Month of April
Junior Wing

Earth Day Assembly:
Students also took active part in sharing their ideas for a clean and green Earth. They also showcased their creativity by making beautiful badges and also drew attractive illustrations in their activity notebooks, composed an acrostic poem on Mother Earth emphasising why it is important to take care of our Mother Earth. A presentation of the world heritage sites in India was shown to increase their awareness about the heritage monuments and sites in our country.

A special assembly was also conducted where the students performed an informative skit which showed how our Mother Earth is getting polluted at a rapid pace. A poem highlighting the measures that we all can take to protect the environment was also presented by the students. A graceful dance, performed by the students, reinforced the idea of saving our planet. The children also pledged to save the Earth and make it a better place to live in. They learnt that simple remedial measures practised in our day-to-day life can make a huge difference to our environment. The assembly concluded successfully with the Director Principal, Ms. Aditi Misra’s message emphasizing on the imminent need to practise measures to restore nature and build a health planet. She urged the students to be more responsible and caring towards our environment.

Save A Watt

With an aim to spread awareness about the importance of electricity and the need to save it, eco-warriors visited the junior classes on 5th April, 2023 to raise awareness among their peers and motivated them to cultivate a sense of duty towards mother Earth.

Baisakhi Assembly:

The Chenab House of the Junior Wing conducted a special assembly on Baisakhi on 12th April 2023 with great zeal and fervour. The motive behind the celebrations was to apprise the children of their rich culture and heritage and to express gratitude towards the farmers for their tireless efforts. The skit related to Baisakhi was followed by a vibrant foot tapping dance which was enjoyed by everyone. The assembly concluded with a message from the Director Principal, Ms. Aditi Misra that farmers play an important part in our lives as they toil hard to provide food for everyone living in the nation.

Middle School

The INTACH School group organised an activity, on April 10th 2023, for the students of Middle School to spread awareness about the importance of preserving Indian art and culture in order to honour the rich history and heritage of our country. To generate awareness for the same, the students of classes VI, VII & VIII participated in Pledge Writing & Badge making Activity on the topic Preserving Indian Art and Culture. The activity encouraged students to showcase their creativity and was thus an enriching experience for them.

Senior School

Excavation Tour - Purana Qila
The students of class XI visited Purana Quila as a part of the ITIHAAS Excavation Tour, on 13th April 2023. Their arrival at the fort was met with an appraisal program by Dr. Vasant Kumar Swarnkar, Director of the renowned excavations at Purana Quila, New Delhi, where he shared essential knowledge behind the history of the site, the importance and nature of archaeological processes, the timeline identification of excavated materials, and their preservation and documentation processes involved in the Excavation Project. The students then visited the excavation sites spread throughout the Fort grounds, and were educated on the significance of the nature of the excavated material- to identify their dynastical and utility origins. Afterwards, they were shown and encouraged to discuss, debate and ask about the nature of archived materials such as seals, coins, terracotta toys, pottery, old beads, amulets based on the information shared by the tour organisers and archaeologist’s in-charge. This was followed by a visit to the Qila- I- Kunha, after which an enrichment session on the daily lives, entertainment and commerce controlled by the people over the past 2500 years, was conducted. The educational trip to the multi- cultural site of Purana Quila, opened up a new vision of modern archaeology to the students. The visit was a stimulating and prolific experience for the young learners.

Celebration Of International Year Of Millets 2023

To celebrate the International Year of Millets 2023, an activity on the benefits of millets was conducted for class IX students. The students collaborated in groups to create captivating collages highlighting the advantages of millets. Subsequently the groups took turns and presented their insights to the class. The activity was well-received by students, who found it enjoyable and informative. It was engaging, productive and culminated with the realization that millets are increasingly becoming an important ingredient in our daily diet.

PRESERVING INDIAN ART & CULTURE

Badge making activity was conducted for students of class IX on preserving Indian Art & Culture. The activity enabled the students to appreciate the rich history and heritage of our country. It focused on protecting traditional art forms, promoting cultural education and fostering an appreciation for diverse customs and practices. Students realised their responsibility of preserving Indian art and culture which in turn will help to maintain our unique identity and promote national pride.

World Health Day Celebration

Raising awareness about physical health and mental wellbeing, Delhi Public School, Gurgaon, celebrated the World Health Day. The students of class X enthusiastically participated in Poster Making activity along with sharing awareness messages. They used visually appealing aids and catchy slogans to effectively convey their messages. It was a great success, providing an interactive and enjoyable way for the students to learn about the significance of maintaining good health and hygiene and creating a healthier world.

Teacher Training Workshop on Facets of India’s Unique heritage

On 18th April 2023, INTACH hosted a day long Teacher Training Workshop on Facets of India’s Unique Heritage at INTACH, New Delhi. The workshop was organised as a part of World Heritage Day celebration (18th April). The purpose of the workshop was to offer ideas and suggestions for the teachers to engage with their students on the aforementioned theme with the support of INTACH divisions and heritage specialists.

Khana Khajan- Indian Cookery Show, 5th March 2023

Food is not rational. Food is culture, habit, craving and identity. Khana Khajana is an Indian cookery show hosted by Heritage Club of Sree Vidyanikethan International School on 5th March 2023. The activity was part of Young INTACH challenges to reinstate conservative food culture among the young generation. It has become imperative on the society and nurturers of the young minds to inculcate the bygone habits, before they disappear completely. The Heritage club took up the assignment conscientiously and made it a grand success. Initially the students were instructed to prepare traditional dishes with the help of their mother and showcase the same on the scheduled day. Having the vigour of contribution, the students participated with great enthusiasm by adding a variety of south Indian dishes like Ragi Muudha,Ragi Idli, Arisellu, Ponganalu, Pongal, Sweet Pongal, Tirumala Vada, Chaddi Annam , Geedipappu Uppma, Pulihora,Keer And Kudumulu etc. to the show. They were also informed to be acquainted with the importance of preparation, values of ingredients and the occasion to prepare. Students Demonstrated true spirit of culture not only in their customary food preparations but also in traditional dresses as well. The khana khajana (food festival) was inaugurated by the Principal of the school, Mr.Rajesh Patil, Administrators and the staff. On the whole the students enjoyed the activity thoroughly. Unique Utensils And Chef Caps are special attraction for this event.

Heritage Day Activities
18 April 2022

The History department today organized a plethora of activities to commemorate the World Heritage Day. Our objective was to edify the students about this day and the need to preserve our heritage.

The following activities were undertaken -
1.Postage Stamp making– students of class VI tried their hands at replicating postage stamps that publicized India’s cultural heritage. The enthusiasm, fervor and earnestness among the students was unmistaken.

2. Origami: Lotus Temple – students of class VII were encouraged to study and replicate the symmetry of the famous Baha’i temple in Delhi, more popularly known as the Lotus temple. Some students stretched their creativity to make astounding reproductions that awed one and all.

3. Pictographic signage designing – As the level of awareness on preservation of monuments is low in India, students of class VIII were asked to funnel their energies into creating some unique pictographic signages. They came up with some noteworthy representations.

4. Logo designing and Slogan writing – students of class IX were encouraged to become designers and spring up some innovative logos for the Archaeological Survey of India. The creative creatures amazed everyone with sensational designs and slogans.

5. Heritage Quiz – in a bid to increase the awareness of our heritage sites, students of class X were subjected to a quiz on the same. It was preceded by an orientation by the history teachers with the endeavor to escalate their cognition about the subject.

6. Heritage Walk- To commemorate World Heritage Day a visit was organized for class XII students of History to Dwarka Baoli at Sector-12, Dwarka. The aim of this activity was to sensitize the students about the need to preserve such monuments which are a part of our rich culture and heritage and to inculcate in them a sense of pride for our National Heritage.

All the activities were executed well and achieved our objective. It was an effort in the right direction.

Junior School

World Wetlands Day

In the month of February, students of class 5 learnt about the ‘Benefits of Wetlands’. They understood that wetlands controls flood, provides clean source of water, improves air quality, and helps sustain healthy livelihood. Students celebrated the World Wetlands Day and made beautiful and colourful posters on wetlands. They enjoyed making the posters.

Jharkhand

The Ek Bharat Shrestha Bharat activities for the state of Jharkhand were conducted for the classes III, IV and V. Students made beautiful illustrations and learned about the folk music and musical instruments of Jharkhand. They also made amazing wall hanging using Sohrai Art. Children presented a spectacle of some delicious traditional dishes of Jharkhand like littichokha, chilka roti and aloo chokha. Quiz was also conducted in the classes. The activities helped them to showcase their artistic skills and gain insight into the heritage of Jharkhand. All the students took part with great enthusiasm and zeal.

Middle School

Route to Roots

Delhi Public School Gurgaon, organised a cultural programme, Route to Roots, the function showcased one of the most intriguing nations in the world—India. The theme aimed at helping the students to learn to value to uphold their traditions. A tableau presentation took place in the Gandhi Statue area amidst the sound of Shloka Chanting in Sanskrit. The programme commenced with felicitation of Parent reps in the auditorium for their valuable contribution. It was followed by a soothing yoga presentation by the students highlighting its importance for our physical and mental well-being. The dance performances of students showcased the grandeur and rich heritage inherited by us. The scintillating Chhau dance, Kolattam, Kumaoni and Lezim dance performances held the audience spellbound. The programme culminated with the grand finale on the song ‘Vande Mataram’. The Director Principal, Ms. Aditi Misra praised the participants for their zest, hard work and effort and said that such programmes give a platform to the students to showcase their talents and enhance their holistic growth.

National Science Day

Science Fest- Seek: Ek Khoj is organised annually at DPS Gurgaon to create and develop the interest of young learners in the field of science and technology. This year, the same was conducted for classes VI to VIII. Different science projects like solar system, DC motors, drip irrigation, acid rain, windmill, hydropower plant, metals and non-metals etc. were exhibited and demonstrated by the participants enthusiastically, in front of the parents. The parents appreciated and applauded the efforts of their children. It was an enriching experience for the students.

Grama Pradardshini and Celebration of Makar Sankranti

The school held the Grama Pradarshini at the school premises for the primary wing in order to let them know the customs and traditions of the village life. The event was a successful one with great enthusiasm from the students and teachers.

The school also celebrated Makar Sankarnti. It helped the children understand the importance of the harvest festival and helped to inculcate moral values like politeness, sharing, respect towards elders and respect for nature. An art activity reinforced the concept and this also helped in developing motor skills.

INTACH Activities for the Month of January 2023
Junior School

The month of January, started with a lot of love and enthusiasm. A host of activities ignited the feeling of creativity, compassion, unity and brotherhood in our Junior School students.

Republic Day

Republic Day is an important day in India’s history that commemorates the establishment and adoption of the Indian Constitution. To celebrate the day with patriotic zeal and enthusiasm, various activities were organised for the students on a virtual platform. The students were briefed about the contribution of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar in making of the Constitution of India and also wrote Preamble of the Indian Constitution in their notebooks and decorated it. Students enjoyed performing the activities.

A Poster making Activity was also conducted for the students of Classes 4 and 5. Students made posters on the topic- ‘Unity in Diversity’. A video related to significance of Republic Day was also shared with them. It was an interesting activity wherein the students learned about the spirit of brotherhood and togetherness.

National Tourism Day

A poster making activity was organized to explore and encourage creativity in students. The activity kept the student engaged and it inspired them to think and work creatively in order to promote artistic excellence.

MIDDLE SCHOOL

INTACH organized a poster making activity on the topic ‘My Food Heritage’ for the middle school students. The students accompanied their poster with an essay describing the unique dish or the unique utensils used to cook the dish. The activity helped students discover practices and rituals surrounding food. The students participated enthusiastically.

HIMACHAL PRADESH

The Ek Bharat Shrestha Bharat activities for the state of Himachal Pradesh were conducted for classes VI-VIII and culminated on Thursday, 22nd December 2022. Children presented a spectacle of some alluring and delicious traditional dishes of Himachal Pradesh like Thukpa, Bhey, Kaale Channe ka khatta, Auriya Kaddu, Aloo Palda, Mittha etc., along with artefacts and traditional outfits. They made Himachali caps and relished the delicacies of Himachal Pradesh while familiarizing them with the diverse culture of the state. All the students took part with exuberance and enthusiasm.
