INTACH Heritage Club – May Activity Report

In May 2025, the Junior, Middle, and Senior School INTACH Clubs of DPS Gurgaon conducted a series of engaging activities to promote awareness and appreciation of India’s rich cultural heritage.

Junior School Activities (Classes 3–5)

International Day of Families:

Students explored the importance of family and heritage through creative activities. Class 3 illustrated their families using Warli art, Class 4 made 'Thank You' cards to express gratitude, and Class 5 created family trees with compliments, deepening their connection to their roots.

International Museum Day:

Students of Classes 3–5 learned about the role of museums and proper visitor etiquette through a PowerPoint presentation. They noted key takeaways in their activity books, emphasizing respect for exhibits, silence, and not touching artifacts.

World Cultural Diversity Day:

Class 3 illustrated their favourite festivals, while Class 4 created vibrant collages on Indian festivals. Class 5 doodled the names of five global languages. These activities enhanced creativity and deepened students’ appreciation of cultural diversity.

Middle School Activities

Harmony in Diversity (2nd May):

Middle school students celebrated traditional Indian crafts by decorating recycled paper bags with Phulkari and Blue Pottery motifs. This hands-on activity blended creativity with sustainability, teaching the cultural significance of these art forms while promoting eco-friendly practices—reflecting INTACH’s commitment to heritage and environmental awareness.

Author Interaction (3rd May):

Students of Classes VI and VII engaged in an inspiring session with historian and heritage activist Vikramjit Singh Rooprai, known for his books on Delhi’s architectural heritage. Through storytelling and discussion, he highlighted the importance of preserving history, shared insights into stepwells (baolis), and encouraged students to explore and document local heritage.

Guest Speaker Programme:

Mr. Rohit Kohli (AGCO) addressed Class VIII on India’s agricultural heritage, linking traditional practices with modern innovations in sustainable farming.

Senior School Activities

Constitution Day:

Students wrote creative newspaper articles on historical figures who helped shape India’s democracy, blending research with storytelling.

National Museum Day Challenge:

Students (Classes VIII–X) created “Home Museums,” displaying family heirlooms and reflecting on their cultural roots.

INTACH Newsletter Contribution:

Students submitted research and artwork on "India's Multi-Hued Headgears," showcasing regional identity and traditional craftsmanship.

Maharana Pratap Jayanti (9th May):

Class IX students performed a powerful street play on Maharana Pratap's life, bravery, and leadership, inspiring patriotism and self-respect.


Oxford Grammar School, Hyderabad

Centenary Heritage Museum Walk

On 18th May, to mark World Museum Day, students of Grades 6, 7, and 8 from the Pracheena Heritage Club participated in a Centenary Heritage Museum Walk organized by the Deccan Heritage Academy Trust.

The museum featured artifacts in terracotta, stucco, metal, bronze, wood, and porcelain from sites like Chinnamaruru, Kondapur, and Keesaragutta. Stucco pieces from Phanigiri and Siddheswaram, and stone sculptures from the Ikshvaku, Kakatiya, and Vijayanagara periods (from Nalgonda and Warangal) were on display.

Four galleries showcased prehistoric, Neolithic, and megalithic objects. The second floor highlighted cave and temple art from sites like Ketavaram, Lepakshi, and Pandavulagutta, along with Ajanta replicas and works by A.R. Chugtai, and other global art influences. The walk gave students valuable insights into India’s rich artistic and cultural heritage.


St. Anthony's School, Udaipur

Parshuram Jayanti: Dramatic Presentation

On the occasion of Parshuram Jayanti, the INTACH Heritage Club students of St. Anthony’s School, Udaipur, presented a compelling dramatic performance celebrating the life and values of Lord Parshuram, the sixth incarnation of Lord Vishnu. Known for his wisdom, valor, and unwavering commitment to justice, Lord Parshuram’s story was brought to life on stage with great enthusiasm and reverence.

Dramatic Performance
The students vividly portrayed key episodes from Lord Parshuram's life, particularly highlighting his obedience and devotion to his father. The performance effectively conveyed the profound moral and spiritual lessons embodied in his journey.

Costumes
The young actors donned elaborate and well-crafted costumes that added authenticity and vibrancy to the portrayal of mythological characters, enhancing the overall visual impact.

Impressive Dialogue Delivery
With clear diction and expressive delivery, the students brought emotional depth to their characters, capturing the essence of Lord Parshuram’s teachings and legacy.

The presentation was a resounding success, showcasing the students’ creativity, teamwork, and deep understanding of India’s rich cultural heritage. It stood as a meaningful tribute to Lord Parshuram and an inspiring celebration of tradition and values.

Celebrating World Dance Day, 29th April

The heritage club members of Maharana Mewar Public School celebrated World Dance Day by showcasing some classical dance forms of India.

Heritage Club Activity For the month of April
Junior School

To introduce young learners (Classes III–V) to heritage awareness, students were shown videos and presentations about INTACH and India’s World Heritage sites. On World Heritage Day, they discussed the importance of preserving historic monuments, and Class V students shared artwork and presentations on musical instruments, highlighting India’s cultural legacy.

The Baisakhi Assembly on 9th April, led by Ravi House, celebrated our agrarian roots. Senior school students opened the session, followed by a thought-provoking skit and energetic dance performance, emphasizing the festival’s cultural and historical importance.

Earth Day was marked through interactive classroom activities. Class III made badges, Class IV performed role-plays, and Class V had a JAM session on “Save Our Earth – Now or Never.” A special assembly themed Our Power, Our Planet featured a Nukkad Natak and talks encouraging sustainable practices and the use of renewable energy.

Middle School

On 5th April, students participated in A Taste of Heritage, preparing fireless traditional dishes like jhal muri and doichira. They shared the cultural history behind each dish, enhancing their appreciation for India’s culinary diversity.

Teachers attended a Training Workshop at INTACH headquarters, learning from experts like Dr. Swapna Liddle and Anirudh Kanisetti about architectural history, monument conservation, and student engagement strategies.

Class VIII participated in a workshop titled Embracing Values through Indian Heritage, where they explored moral values like empathy, honesty, and teamwork through stories, videos, and group reflection, guided by Ms. Dinu Raheja of tGELF.

Senior School

On 5th April, Class X students went on a Heritage Walk to Humayun’s Tomb, Sunder Nursery, and the Sunken Museum. The trip offered a hands-on exploration of Delhi’s history, Mughal architecture, biodiversity, and artistic heritage.

Class XII History students visited the National Museum, engaging with artefacts from ancient to medieval India. A virtual tour of Ajanta and Ellora caves provided immersive learning about India’s artistic and spiritual traditions.

On World Earth Day, select Class XI students participated in an INTACH Poster-Making Competition using biodegradable materials, creatively promoting eco-consciousness.

To mark World Heritage Day on 18th April, Class XI students joined the Atulya Bharat National Heritage Quiz organized by Manipal University, Jaipur, celebrating India’s diverse heritage.

Earth Day Celebration, 22nd April 2025

Earth Day is an annual event on April 22 to demonstrate support for environmental protection. First held on April 22, 1970, it now includes a wide range of events coordinated globally through earthday.org (formerly Earth Day Network) including 1 billion people in more than 193 countries.

On the occasion of Earth Day on April 22, 2025 various activities were done by the heritage club students to stimulate young hearts with the feeling of belongingness with our planet. Students adopted plants and initiated to make a green classroom.

Earth Day Celebration 2025 – A Step towards a Greener Tomorrow

To commemorate Earth Day, the school organized a series of meaningful activities designed to foster environmental awareness and a sense of responsibility among students. The enthusiastic participation reflected our collective commitment to protecting the planet.

Poster-Making Competition:
Students from various grades showcased their creativity and concern for the environment through impactful and colorful posters. Their artwork addressed pressing environmental issues and served as a call to action for a greener future.

Eco-Rally:
With banners in hand and slogans echoing through the air, students and staff marched in an energetic rally to spread awareness about conserving resources, reducing pollution, and safeguarding nature.

Tree Plantation Drive:
Students actively participated in planting saplings within the school campus and nearby areas. Each sapling symbolized a pledge to care for the environment and contribute to the fight against climate change.
The day served as a powerful reminder that even small actions can create lasting impact. Let’s continue to protect and celebrate our Earth—not just on Earth Day, but every day.


The British School

The British School Heritage Walk to Lodhi Garden, 18th March 2025

INTACH's Heritage Education and Communication Division (HECS) organised an insightful heritage walk and session for 90 students from The British School, New Delhi, at Lodhi Garden and INTACH on 18th March, 2025. The walk was led by Ms. Nanki, Ms. Vaishnavi, Mr. Abhishek, and Mr. Deepanshu of the HECS team. They began the first half of their walk at Muhammad Shah's Tomb, receiving educational insights into its history, architecture, and cultural significance. The second half of the walk took them to Sheesh Gumbad, Bada Gumbad, and Sikander Lodhi's Tomb, continuing their exploration. At INTACH headquarters, students attended a lecture on heritage by HECS Principal Director Ms. Purnima Datt and on conservation by Ms. Merrin Anil, Centre Director of Art and Material Heritage, INTACH and also visited the conservation labs to observe preservation processes. The walk encouraged active exploration and proved to be an insightful and enriching experience for all participants.


Sheth C N English Medium School, Ahmedabad

Visit to L. D. Museum, Ahmedabad, 19th February 2025

Sheth C. N. English Medium School, Ahmedabad, Gujarat, has established a Heritage Club to educate, inspire, and connect students with history. Two teachers and twenty students were selected as members of the club.

As part of their activities, the school organized a visit to the L.D. Museum, Ahmedabad, on 19th February. This renowned museum houses an exceptional collection of sculptures, manuscripts, paintings, and artifacts. The sculpture section featured intricately crafted stone and bronze statues, showcasing remarkable artistic expertise. Ancient manuscripts provided valuable insights into historical texts and scripts. The painting gallery exhibited vibrant artworks depicting significant historical events and cultural heritage. Additionally, the artifacts, including coins and tools, offered a fascinating glimpse into past civilizations. Each exhibit was well-preserved and highly informative, enhancing the students’ understanding and appreciation of art, history, and cultural evolution.

During the visit, students were divided into groups and assigned various tasks, such as creating live sketches, recording videos explaining the significance of the exhibits, preparing PowerPoint presentations, and designing quizzes based on their observations. Following the visit and completion of these activities, they were given the task of developing a website for the Heritage Club. Visit to Erra Matti Dibbalu

The INTACH INTACH Heritage Club Students of Visakha Valley School went on a field trip to Erra Matti Dibbalu, Natural Arch and other Beach areas. The visit was educational, where the students learned about the geological significance and ecological importance of these sites.

Makarsakranti Celebration

Makar Sankranti marks the transition of the Sun into the zodiac sign of Capricorn (Makara), signalling the end of the winter solstice and the beginning of longer days. It is celebrated across India with various regional customs, but the underlying themes of gratitude, generosity, and community remain constant.
Members of INTACH Heritage Club of Maharana Mewar Public School celebrated Makarsakranti in the following manner
1. Til ladoo making: Til (sesame seeds) are traditional eaten on Makarsakranti in various forms.Students made til ladoo to celebrate the festival.
2. Sitoliya : Makarsakranti marks playing of traditional games like Sitoliya
3. Kite Making and Decoration Activity: Kite flying was one of the significant parts of maker sakranti celebration and thus Kite Making and Decoration Activity was organised for students of class eighth.

A Heritage Walk: Exploring Historic Sites
The school organized a field trip to enrich students' knowledge in a hands-on manner, free from the constraints of textbooks. These engaging excursions took place at significant locations such as the Governor House, Kala Bhoomi, State Museum, and Tribal Museum.

Junior School

February began with enthusiasm, fostering love for nature and global awareness through special observances.

World Wetlands Day (2nd February)

Students of classes III-V explored the ecological importance of wetlands through a PowerPoint presentation, bird illustrations, and a JAM session on conservation efforts.

World Radio Day (13th February)

Class V students learned about radio’s history and impact through videos and a presentation, followed by an activity illustrating its role in communication.

Middle School

INTACH Inter-School Poster Making Competition (4th February)

Hosted by DPS Gurgaon in collaboration with INTACH, the competition celebrated India’s heritage. The event featured esteemed guests, cultural performances, and artistic expressions, fostering a deeper appreciation for India’s diversity.

National Science Day – 'Seek: Ek Khoj'

Students of classes VI-VIII engaged in hands-on experiments, discussions, and demonstrations, exploring science’s impact on daily life and global challenges.

Filmit Festival 2025 (4th February)

Held at CD Deshmukh Hall, Delhi, the festival showcased student-made films promoting cultural understanding. DPS Gurgaon won:
Best Film: Papad Chronicles (Sparsh Vaish & Ishan Dutt Thakur, Class VIII)
Best Screenplay: Dilli Ki Dhadkan – Kinaari Bazaar (Kashvee Dhawan & Aditi Adlakha, Class VIII)

Senior School

With classes X and XII preparing for Board exams and IX and XI focused on finals, extracurricular activities are on hold and will resume next session.

Junior School

January was filled with activities celebrating India’s cultural diversity, history, and natural beauty.

National Tourism Day (25th January)

Class III students illustrated dos and don’ts of responsible tourism, promoting sustainable travel. Class V created colorful flipbooks showcasing India’s famous tourist destinations.

Republic Day (26th January)

Class III students learned about Republic Day’s significance and Dr. B.R. Ambedkar’s role in shaping the Constitution. A PowerPoint presentation enriched their understanding, and they expressed patriotism through drawings of the national flower, Lotus.

Middle School

Harvest Festivals of India

Students created vibrant comic strips depicting Pongal, Bihu, Lohri, and Makar Sankranti, exploring regional traditions and festivities.

Republic Day

Classes VII and VIII participated in a quiz on constitutional principles, followed by a pledge-taking ceremony reinforcing unity and patriotism.

Poster Making

Students artistically depicted secularism through posters, illustrating themes of unity, religious harmony, and the Constitution’s vision.

Senior School

With Board and final term exams underway, extracurricular activities for classes IX–XII are on hold and will resume in the new academic session.
